Tanisha Reed Joins Equitable as Associate General Counsel from McGuireWoods

McGuireWoods Charlotte counsel Tanisha R. Reed will join financial services company Equitable as associate general counsel, where she will work on class action litigation. Her last day at the firm is Sept. 6, 2024.

Reed, who joined McGuireWoods in 2017, focused her practice on commercial litigation, representing banks and other financial institutions in disputes involving complex financial products and instruments. Among her honors, she was recognized on the National Association of Women Lawyers’ “NAWL Rising List” and selected as a finalist in the “Future Leaders” category of Chambers and Partners’ Diversity & Inclusion Awards.

She earned her B.A. from the University of Kansas and her J.D. from Harvard Law School. During law school, she served as a student attorney with the Harvard Legal Aid Bureau, the nation’s oldest student legal services organization, providing legal aid and assistance regardless of socioeconomic standing.

Reed said she will miss her McGuireWoods colleagues, and she credited the firm with building her litigation experience in the practice areas of banking and financial services. She also praised the firm for its support for working parents. “When I started here seven years ago, I had three very small children and I had been a stay-at-home mom after leaving my Chicago law practice,” Reed said. “It was a big decision to come back into the workforce — back into a Big Law litigation practice in particular. I was welcomed with open arms and the understanding that this is my career, but I also have a family. My commitment to a healthy work-life balance was never questioned at this firm.”

Charlotte partner Robert A. Muckenfuss, chair of the firm’s Financial Services & Securities Enforcement Department, said: “We are grateful for Tanisha’s many contributions to the firm, and we wish her continued success as she takes this new position at Equitable.”
