Sonya Middleton Named SVP and General Counsel for Cox Communications

Cox Enterprises today announced that Sonya Middleton has been named senior vice president and general counsel for Cox Communications, effective Jan. 5.

In this role, Sonya will lead the team responsible for legal support for Cox Communications, including the residential business and commercial divisions of Cox Business, Hospitality Network, Blueprint RF and RapidScale. Sonya’s team supports Marketing, Sales and Service; Cox Mobile, Products, Cox Media, Content, Regulatory Operations, and Cox Communities. Middleton will also serve as a strategic advisor to the Cox Communications senior leadership team on critical legal and business matters.

A Cox veteran of nearly 25 years, Middleton most recently served as vice president of commercial operations for Cox Communications, providing counsel for complex transactions and leading a team that provided legal support for key business functions. Before that, she served as assistant general counsel, serving Supply Chain.

Before joining Cox, Middleton served as in-house counsel with GE and Charter Behavioral Health Systems. She also worked as an associate with Atlanta-based Kilpatrick Stockton, LLP (now Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton). Middleton earned her law degree from Duke University and has served as an adjunct professor at Emory School of Law.
