Foley Hoag LLP announced that energy and climate attorney Rebecca Chilton has joined the firm as a partner. Chilton’s project finance experience within the clean energy sector, at law firms and as in-house counsel, will further enhance the market-leading capabilities of the firm’s Energy & Climate Group and Energy Project Finance & Development Practice.
“Rebecca has been at the forefront of the clean energy sector from the beginning of the renewables boom in the late 2000s, forging an entrepreneurial and mission-oriented career path that dovetails perfectly with the unique group that we have built and continue to grow at Foley Hoag,” said Energy & Climate Group Co-chair Mark Barnett. “Rebecca’s extensive background in energy project finance and development work, as well as her experience building clean energy lending programs and advising leading players in the ecosystem, will enable her to make tremendous contributions to our group and, most importantly, our clients. We welcome Rebecca to the firm.”
Chilton provides a full suite of transactional services to clean energy clients, including developers, lenders, contractors, sponsors, financial institutions, equity investors, and other stakeholders in the renewable energy sector, providing services in the areas of project finance, mergers and acquisitions, real estate, site development, and construction contracting. She also advises small financial institutions in developing clean energy financing platforms and making loans and tax credit investments in renewable energy projects, as well as private debt funds lending outside the renewables space.
Chilton’s in-house and consulting experience includes building three of the largest USDA lending programs in the nation, giving her an all-encompassing understanding of the legal, financial, operational, and programmatic goals of renewable energy companies, financial institutions, and other sustainable businesses.
“As the clean energy and sustainability revolution accelerates, I am excited to continue working with leaders in the climate space to help them accomplish their goals,” said Chilton. “There was a great sense of collaboration that really drew me to Foley Hoag. The renewable energy transition is a crucial mission, and I am glad to join this robust team to expand our clients’ impact.”
Most recently, Chilton was a partner at an AmLaw 100 firm focusing on renewable energy. Previously, she was founder and principal of Izuba Consulting, provider of consulting services to renewable energy companies, financial institutions, and other sustainable businesses. Chilton also founded the renewable energy lending group at Live Oak Bank, where she served as Domain Expert, Renewable Energy and Infrastructure. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Wellesley College, and a Juris Doctorate from the University of North Carolina School of Law.
