On Wednesday, Janaury 21, from noon - 2 p.m., President Meanes will join New Jersey City University for a luncheon celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Ms. Meanes is the first African American to be elevated from associate to partner at St. Louis's largest law firm, Thompson Coburn LLP, and she is president of the National Bar Association, the oldest and largest association of predominately African America lawyers, judges, law professors and students in the world. Ms. Meanes practices in Thompson Coburn's litigation area and as such has represented corporations, public agencies, and financial institutions in many high-profile trials and commercial disputes. She is an ordained minister in The New Freedomn Church.
The luncheon is being presented by NJCU's Lee Hagan Africana Studies Center. The topic of the keynote address is Non-violence in the Era of Ferguson.
