Mir Masud-Elias Joins Arnold & Porter as Counsel

Arnold & Porter announced today that Mir Masud-Elias has joined the firm’s Tax and Tax-Exempt practices as counsel, resident in Washington, D.C.

Masud-Elias brings more than 20 years of research collaboration, transactional, and management experience across multiple industries, including tax-exempt organizations, life sciences, healthcare, academic research, pharmaceutical, and financial services. As former Chief Counsel and Executive Director of Legal Affairs for the Abramson Cancer Center (ACC) at the University of Pennsylvania, Masud-Elias holds extensive knowledge of the legal issues critical to university research offices, which include tax-exempt issues, organizational structure, corporate governance, strategic partnerships, the protection of intellectual property, technology transfer, medical research conflicts of interest, and guiding organizations through mergers and dissolutions. Prior to the ACC, Masud-Elias spent more than a decade as a corporate transactional lawyer at several national law firms, where she focused on M&A, divestitures, joint ventures, and strategic alliances.

Masud-Elias earned her J.D. from Columbia Law School, where she was named a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar. She received her M.B.E. from the University of Pennsylvania, and her B.A. from Amherst College, magna cum laude.
