JAMS announces the addition of Hon. Wynne S. Carvill (Ret.) to its panel. Judge Carvill joins JAMS with a rich legal background and experience in a wide range of practice areas. During his time on the bench, he handled a variety of cases, including civil, criminal and family law. Prior to his appointment to the bench in 2003, Judge Carvill was a civil litigator for more than 25 years and served as his firm’s general counsel for 12 years.
Based in the San Francisco Resolution Center, Judge Carvill will serve as an arbitrator, mediator and special master/referee in a variety of disputes, including antitrust/competition, business/commercial, class actions/mass torts, employment, insurance, intellectual property, personal injury/torts and professional liability.
“Judge Carvill is known for his professionalism and his efficiency in moving complex disputes toward resolution,” said Chris Poole, JAMS president and CEO. “We’re honored that he chose to join the JAMS panel in San Francisco.”
Judge Carvill settled numerous matters in his 16 years as a superior court judge in Alameda (Calif.) County, including two years as a full-time settlement judge handling an average of 10 settlement conferences per week. Prior to that, he served four years in one of the court’s two complex litigation departments managing class actions, Private Attorneys General Act (PAGA) cases and major commercial disputes.
“I am committed to fully understanding all of the issues and arguments at hand and ensuring that the parties believe they have been heard,” said Judge Carvill. “Every matter that comes before me is an opportunity to help parties reach resolution. I’m looking forward to continuing to leverage my background as a neutral with JAMS.”
Judge Carvill received his B.A., summa cum laude, from Williams College and his J.D., cum laude, from Harvard Law School.
