On Wednesday, October 19, the Boston Bar Association will present a seminar titled Doing Business in Canada: Cross-Border Considerations. The event will be held at the Boston Bar Association at 16 Beacon Street in Boston and run from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.
The trade relationship between Canada and the United States is the largest between any two countries. As a result of this trade, there are many cross-border legal issues that arise which all U.S. counsel ought to be aware of when advising clients.
Canada has weathered the global economic recession better than most members of the G8. As a result, many companies and businesses are seeing Canada as a hub in which to do their North American business.
Speakers Jon-David Giacomelli and Chris R. MacLeod of Cambridge LLP will discuss specific requirements, limitations and hot topics involving U.S. and Canada cross-border litigation. Specific topics include requirements when enforcing a U.S. judgment or arbitral award in Canada; applicable limitation period to enforce a U.S. judgment; when to commence legal proceedings in Canada and when to do so in the U.S.; and obtaining injunctive relief across the Canada/U.S. border.
