The Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC) will host its annual meeting this year in Phoenix, Arizona from October 28 to 30. In-house lawyers, legal service providers, and business thought leaders from over 25 countries will be in attendance. Trevor Faure, CEO of Smarter Law Solutions and ACC’s benchmarking partner, will give the opening plenary, “Smarter Law: From emotional to artificial intelligence, transforming busy lawyers into business leaders.”
At the conference, leaders from Capital One, Motorola, Starbucks, Thomson Reuters, Western Union, and other companies will serve as faculty for the two full days of programming, which will cover law department performance, in-house law and geopolitics, new technology, legal operations, corporate culture, and compliance and ethics.
Programming highlights include:
- When It’s Not a Secret Anymore: New Issues for Attorney-Client Privilege and In-house Counsel
- The Brexit Exit
- Exploring Use Cases of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in the Law Department
- Increasing Resiliency: Incorporating Mindfulness in our Practice
- Lost in Translation: Cross-Border M&A Deal Killers
The plenary address will reflect Faure’s expertise on navigating existential corporate change and challenges at companies like Apple, Dell, Tyco and others. Underlying his approach are the “Magnificent 7” ways an in-house lawyer can demonstrate value and become a trusted adviser, while overcoming the “Maleficent 7” reasons that lawyers resist and avoid change.
“As business and technology change, the in-house role is changing with it,” said Veta T. Richardson, president and CEO of ACC. “The 2019 ACC Annual Meeting will give attendees a unique look into the forces reshaping the law departments of the 21st century, like artificial intelligence and recent international regulations, as well as the best practices and perspectives of the best known and most innovative in-house leaders.”
