Envisioning Tomorrow: The Role of GC/CLO Over the Next 5 Years (CLE-Eligible)
DATE & TIME
1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. ET
Event Details
General Counsel/Chief Legal Officers (GC/CLO) have historically been viewed as highly specialized experts dedicated to managing company risk, compliance and legal contract language. However, with “disrupters” such as the introduction of technology, increasing regulatory scrutiny and geopolitical tumult, the role has evolved and become so much more.
The emphasis has shifted from the CLO being a "top lawyer" to becoming both the "key adjudicator of risks” and “a strategic value creator." Artificial intelligence, business intelligence and ongoing technology advancements show a lot of promise (and risk) and harnessing their power is viewed as a path for the GC to become a strategic value creator. As we look ahead to the next 5 years, the role of the GC/CLO is poised to evolve even further.
This enlightening discussion will reveal how those at the front lines foresee the role of the GC/CLO evolving over the next 5 years. Gain insights into:
- The role of the modern GC/CLO, and how their remit has broadened
- Expectations of peer executives, in terms of how the GC should interact/support their objectives
- The rise of a new cohort of Legal Ops we call GenO, or Generation Operations, and the interdependent relationship with the GC
- AI and technology adoption and its role in supporting the ascent of CLOs/GCs as value creators
- The legal department’s critical role in solving key business challenges and increasing organizational efficiency
- Enterprise initiatives like contract management & ESG and how they catapult legal departments into revenue and profit creators as well as enterprise risk managers
Speakers:
- Eric Schwartz, EVP and Chief Legal Officer, Integra Life Sciences
- Kim Wolfe, Managing Director, Legal Business Solutions, Wells Fargo
- Moderator: Prashant Dubey, Chief Strategy Officer, Agiloft
